Children's Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment & Preferences for Activities of Children (CAPE/PAC)

Educational | Emotional Intelligence | Screening

Used to explore how children with or without disabilities participate in everyday recreational and leisure tasks outside of their mandated school activities, the CAPE provides information to practitioners for the purpose of intervention planning or measuring outcomes. The instrument addresses the child's diversity and intensity of participation in activities, with whom and where activities are typically done, and the child's enjoyment of activities.

The PAC may be used to assess an individual’s preference for activities, and although typically considered an extension of the CAPE, can be used independently.

ASSESSMENT SCALES

On both the CAPE and PAC, the following are assessed across the 55 activities contained in the measures:

Diversity – number of activities performed

Intensity – frequency of participation

Enjoyment of activities

Context of participation – with who, where

The PAC also assesses the child’s

Preferences for involvement in each activity

AREAS OF APPLICATION

Both the CAPE and PAC measure various aspects of participation or engagement across recreational, active physical, social, skill-based and self-improvement activities.

REPORT OPTION

At this stage, both the CAPE and PAC are hand-scored. Scoring provides practitioners with an overall participation score, scores for both formal and informal activities, and scale scores for each of the 5 types of activities assessed.

SOUTH AFRICAN RESEARCH

Although South African research and norms are not yet available for the CAPE or PAC, JVR Psychometrics welcomes the opportunity to partner with clients in conducting research studies.
